Maintenance and Restoration

Our bronze maintenance and restoration service is designed to preserve and maintain the appearance and structural integrity of bronze sculptures, from monumental-sized public artworks to smaller indoor pieces. This service includes cleaning, maintenance, and, when needed, restoration. This approach ensures that sculptures remain in optimal condition, preserving artistic and historical value for years to come.

Maintenance Services

Regular maintenance is essential to protect bronze sculptures from the long-term effects of exposure to pollution and the elements. Periodic maintenance helps preserve the bronze surface and avoids a situation where costly restoration is required. Our scheduled cleaning and maintenance service includes:

Condition Monitoring
During maintenance visits, we inspect the sculpture for early signs of oxidisation, pitting or damage, and provide a fire and after-condition report and maintenance schedule recommendation.

Periodic Cleaning
Gently removing accumulated grime, pollutants, and any signs of surface crusting to prevent irreversible damage to the bronze

Re-Waxing
Applying a protective layer of wax helps preserve the patina and shields the bronze from accelerated oxidation and pitting.

Restoration Services

Bronze sculptures are remarkably durable but can still deteriorate due to environmental exposure, neglect, or vandalism. For sculptures that have been damaged, we offer comprehensive restoration services:

Repair and Recasting
If the sculpture requires structural repair, we use various techniques to restore it to its original state. In cases where significant damage has occurred, we can create a mould from the original piece and recast sections or the entire sculpture, ensuring an accurate and seamless restoration. It is very rare to have to re-patina an entire sculpture, and this would be a last resort and only apply to a severely damaged sculpture.

Assessment and Recommendations
Our team begins by thoroughly inspecting the sculpture to evaluate its condition. This includes liaising with a heritage consultant where applicable and assessing signs of oxidation, structural damage, or surface deterioration. Based on our findings, we provide detailed recommendations for restoration.

Final Documentation

Upon completing any restoration or maintenance work, we provide:

Detailed condition report: A comprehensive report outlining the work performed, the current state of the sculpture, and maintenance recommendations.

Photographic documentation: A visual record of the sculptureā€™s condition before and after the work.
